On a rainy day in February 2012 we came to view Windsor Farm for the first time and fell in love with the house and surrounding area. We had a vision to open up an approachable and family friendly stargazing holiday complex where not only astronomy enthusiasts but also their friends and family could come and enjoy both the dark skies and rugged coastline that North Cornwall has to offer – the Eddington Lodge idea was born. The house was uninhabitable and three extremely run down barns made the site imposing. Having made the life-changing decision to quit our full time jobs and move to Cornwall we purchased the property and spent the first year renovating the farmhouse to create a comfortable home to live in. We then concentrated on building three cosy log cabins for our guests to ensure maximum comfort all year round, whether in the height of summer or during the long crisp winter nights.
Our vision is to provide a place where people of all ages can come for astronomy holidays to enjoy the exceptional dark skies and learn a little more about what they’re seeing at the same time. We have three self-catering log cabins which are fully fitted out to be both practical and comfortable. We have built two observation pods with 20 inch Dobsonian telescopes which are simple to use and great for seeing both planets and deep sky objects. We also have an observatory for deep sky observation and astrophotography, so our guests can take a photograph away with them as a memento from their astronomy holiday. Upon arrival all guests will have a 30 minute introductory tutorial on how to use the telescopes and guests will be free to use the pods and observatory at any time during their stay subject to our terms and conditions. Courses are then available upon request - click here to find out more. We aim to make your astronomy holiday as enjoyable as possible, no matter what your level of expertise might be. So whether you’re a seasoned astronomer or have never looked through a telescope before, you’ll be fully catered for at Eddington Lodge.
We hope that you enjoy the dark skies and Cornish coastlines as much as we do and look forward to you joining us soon.
